Our joint vision of creating a better tomorrow.

We intend to make a lasting contribution for a sustainable way of moving goods and people around the globe.

Why CharIN is committed to sustainable development:

We are an impact driven association. Achieving an interoperable infrastructure is not an end in itself, but a prerequisite for achieving a global market ramp-up of e-mobility and thus making the mobility sector CO2 neutral around the globe.

Sustainability is an innovation driver that puts new topics on the agenda and attracts new cooperation partners accordingly.

Sustainable development is not a „nice-to-have“ anymore, but a „must-do“ in view of increasing pressure to shift to a more sustainable way of living and doing business.

What we mean when we talk about sustainability

Sustainability is the word of our age. It promises permanence and stability. At the same time, it is highly complex, as it is used in connection with mobility, transport, energy, nutrition, climate protection, as well as in culture and environment.

After all, sustainability has to be broken down into specific fields of action for every organization. Only then, it will unfold its full effect.

Because of its global radius, CharIN holds the responsibility to anticipate megatrends and implement them profitably for the long-term development of the association.

Due to our global activitites, we align our sustainability efforts with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that were adopted by all United Nations member states in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

According to us, this framework is a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future. Therefore we intend to visualize and manage our sustainable development based on these goals

Our path towards an impact-driven organization

To get the sustainability roadmap off the ground, the global CharIN team came together in 2021 to define the status quo as well as the level of ambition regarding the CharIN performance in all sustainability dimensions.

During that process we identified aspects that CharIN is addressing already. We also prioritized topics that should receive greater attention in the future. While following a structured sustainability survey we gained immediate insights into untapped potentials. Our answers resulted in a report that outlined concrete fields of action promising a significant leverage.

Sustainable management never stops. We have just started. As we intend to make a serious contribution in the long run, we will gradually expand our sustainability related activities. Sustainability shall infiltrate every area of our association work.

Stay tuned for more. This is the right place to learn more about our ongoing sustainability effort.

Documentary: "Putting the Smart into Cities" (Film by ICE - Institution of Civil Engineers)

Cities are becoming smarter and therefore more sustainable. The future of urban spaces is green, digital and connected. This optimistic development is made possible by technologies which are not optimized for their own sake, but are put at the service of society.

This paradigm shift is giving rise to inspiring images of the future that, despite an increasing population, portray cities as places with a high quality of life.

This thought-provoking path into a new future is wonderfully portrayed in the latest documentary "Putting the smart into Cities". How is e-mobility evolving and how does sector coupling for smart energy systems will influence urban places in the future? Curious?

Then tune in from minute 16.45 onwards when CharIN`s contribution is put into spotlight. Needless to say, that is worth watching the entire documentary of the renowned Institute of Civil Engineers and it's numerous partners across the globe.

CharINs approach on:

"We want climate neutral cities, regions, and countries and electromobility is a decisive instrument. The UN framework with the Sustainable Development Goals, the EU Green Deal or the Biden Clean Transportation Programme show us where we must head to achieve global climate goals in each sector. We intend to make a lasting contribution for a sustainable way of moving goods and people around the globe."
