Southwire becomes a regular member of CharIN

To drive and inform our efforts to contribute to the growth and success of electric vehicle industry

A leader in technology and innovation, Southwire Company, LLC is one of North America’s largest wire and cable producers and an emerging influence in the industrial electrical space. Southwire and its subsidiaries manufacture building wire and cable, utility products, metal-clad cable, portable and electronic cord products, OEM wire products and engineered products. In addition, Southwire supplies assembled products, contractor equipment and hand tools.

As a family business, Southwire proudly continues building on its commitment to environmental stewardship and corporate sustainability by prioritizing stakeholder expectations and supporting the wellbeing of our communities and the environment in which we live. To help us meet this commitment, we organize our sustainability strategy around five core tenets: Growing Green, Living Well, Giving Back, Doing Right and Building Worth.

Our five core tenets allow us to deepen our vision and commitments by strengthening and aligning our programs, goals and governance. Driven by the highest standard of excellence, we appreciate the need for continued improvement and are proud that our results continue to build a stronger Southwire. The use of environmental product declarations is growing rapidly in the wire and cable market. Southwire is developing a product stewardship program to evaluate and reduce the impacts of our products and processes throughout the organization.

At Southwire, we deliver power responsibly, and the sustainability goals of CharIN align with ours, specifically regarding carbon zero.

In July 2020, Southwire announced a goal to achieve 100% zero carbon energy for our operations by 2025 (2018 baseline). This objective—coined Carbon Zero—will address our Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions. Southwire will achieve this goal through eco-efficiency projects to reduce energy consumption and increase the use of green energy—including owned or leased renewable energy sources, purchased green power and renewable energy credits and carbon offsets from the market.

Southwire’s products enable the future of electric mobility and being a part of the CharIN community will drive and inform our efforts to contribute to the growth and success of electric vehicle industry.

Through our membership, we look forward to participating in pioneering projects like Megawatt Charging, where our patented liquid-cooled cable technology will play a significant role in delivering high-power charging solutions in important e-mobility segments like mass transportation, aviation and truck and bus – where ultra-fast charging speeds are essential.
