SK signet to Participate as an Official Sponsor of CharIN Testival ASIA 2022, a Global EV charging event

By establishing a global charging software standard, SK signet will continue its efforts to expand the EV infrastructure by continuously enhancing the convenience of charging.

SK signet will participate in "CharIN Testival & Conference ASIA 2022" organized by ‘CharIn (Charging Interface Initiative e. V., hereinafter CharIN)’ an international consortium for EV charging, as a tester and official sponsor. The CharIN Testival & Conference Asia 2022, which will be held at the Korea Electric Research Institute (KERI) in Ansan, Gyeonggi-do, from October 24 to 27, is the first official event of its kind to be held in the Asian region.

CharIN is a global association of businesses in e-mobility that leads the software standardization of EV charging systems, with major global automotive brands and around 200 charger-related organizations as core members. Last year, the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI) was designated as the world's first official ‘EV Global Interoperability Conformity Evaluation Organization’ for CharIN, making Korea the first Asian country to host the annual event, which has been held only in North America and Europe.

SK signet will participate in this Testival as a tester and sponsor, conducting cross-verification tests of charging interoperability with various EV manufacturers. The event will start on the 24th with a virtual conference on topics such as case studies sharing and market outlook and will run for three days starting today with full-scale testing of global car brands and charger manufacturers. SK signet joined as a member of CharIN in 2017 and has been actively involved in the international standardization of fast-charging technology, participating since the first CharIN Testival in the Netherlands in 2019.

To expand the use of electric vehicles, not only must the number of EV charging stations be increased, but the inconvenience of charging, such as malfunctions and errors, must be improved at the same time. Establishing a global standard through a software technology exchange and cooperation platform such as this one led by CharIN will reduce the number of errors, including communication, control, and others, that can occur during charging, thereby greatly improving the convenience of charging. SK signet has been active as a member of CharIN, contributing to the creation of an international standard for fast-charging.

“We are striving to provide a customer-friendly and hassle-free charging experience independent from the kinds of EVs, and we are leading the way in enhancing and further developing this global standard for EV charging through active interaction with various electric vehicle brands," said Hugh Kim, CTO of SK signet.
