On April 9, thirteen CharIN members met with U.S. House and Senate offices and committees throughout the day. These meetings were bipartisan in nature. Following the day of advocacy, a networking reception brought together CharIN members, congressional staff, and federal agency representatives for additional discussions.
Critical policy issues were discussed, including:
- Maintaining the bipartisan-supported Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) Tax Credits, which bolster American manufacturing, create jobs, and strengthen the domestic supply chain. These energy and manufacturing tax credits drive advanced manufacturing and keep America competitive.
- Restarting the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program to expedite the deployment of charging stations using the fully authorized and appropriated $5 billion in funding.
- Maintaining federal funding for charger/ vehicle interoperability testing and next generation EV charging infrastructure, particularly related to open standards, vehicle-grid integration, cybersecurity, communications, standardized payments, and other topics uniquely supported by a government role.
“The EV charging industry is at a pivotal moment in U.S. history. Electric transportation is creating jobs and economic investments in the United States. CharIN was excited to talk with members of Congress about how electrification is increasing the competitiveness of the U.S. automotive sector. CharIN is committed to working with the industry to ensure reliable and quality charging experiences to American drivers.”Erika Myers, Executive Director of CharIN North America
CharIN was able to provide important technical information to Congress and plans to be a go-to resource for future policy considerations moving forward.
This milestone event was generously sponsored by CharIN members AMPECO, General Motors, Lucid, ABB E-mobility, and Electrify America.
