ISO 15118-20 Amendment 1 Published: AC DER Service, MCS Service, and Improved Security Concept

The release of ISO 15118-20 Amendment 1 represents another important step in the evolution of standardized EV charging communication.

One of the key additions is the official integration of the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) into ISO 15118-20. The amendment introduces dedicated communication procedures and requirements for MCS, enabling standardized high-power charging communication for heavy-duty vehicles and other megawatt-scale applications.

In addition, new AC Distributed Energy Resources (DER) services have been incorporated into the standard. These extensions strengthen bidirectional energy interaction between electric vehicles and the grid while supporting advanced smart charging and energy management use cases.

The amendment also enhances the security architecture of ISO 15118-20, providing a more robust and future-ready foundation for secure EV charging communication.

By extending the standard to cover next-generation charging scenarios such as MCS and advanced energy services, Amendment 1 represents another significant step toward global interoperability between vehicles and charging infrastructure.
