Day 1 was all about communication protocols and interoperability topics.
The FG Communication provided an update on wireless power transfer (WPT) and bidirectional power transfer (BPT) DC guidelines. ISO 15118 updates, CharIN efforts on error codes to identify root causes of charging issues, and many other topics were discussed.
The FG Conformance Test & Interoperability reported on the status of PLC test case development, which the members well recognised. An update was given regarding the CCS Extended Conformance project supported by an external engineering company. We had a passionate exchange on the requirements for the transition from NACS to J3400 in North America. Also, the ongoing Task Force Cybersecurity discussed the soon-to-be-published Threat Model.
Day 2 covered connection and grid integration topics.
The FG Connection focused on pin caps, with the group looking into field reliability numbers and discussing improvement opportunities. The Subgroup HPC power increase explained how to boost the charging current up to 800A. MCS-related standards discussions formed a segway into the TF Mining discussion, which is going on together with ICMM members in CharIN. The Mining industry is gathering the requirements for charging of heavy-duty vehicles while reusing as much as possible from MCS and available charging technology based on CCS building blocks. The RWTH Aachen presented findings from an experiment on battery degradation with bidirectional charging. The day concluded with an overview of the regulatory aspects of bidirectional charging in the EU and the upcoming ISO 15118-20 amendment.
Day 3 covered infrastructure and some regional topics.
Starting with regulatory updates and the importance of more transparency between the groups, we looked at our published documents. Further, an outlook on CharIN's LATAM strategy gave an impression of our global approach to encouraging the spread of CCS charging technology. The group discussed dealing with CO2 emission measurements at the charging station. Finally, the last topic created an awareness of load dump (high voltage peaks), which needs attention from EV and EVSE makers.
Thank you to all participants for making the journey and actively participating in the discussions.
We look forward to seeing you in person again at our upcoming Testivals and Conference or, at the latest, at our next Focus Group Week in November.
