First Mode joins CharIN

First Mode will bring expertise in heavy-duty electrified mining vehicles to the association.

Global carbon reduction company First Mode today announced it has joined CharIN, the leading global association with over 300 members dedicated to promoting interoperability based on the Combined Charging System (CCS) as the global standard for charging vehicles of all kinds. First Mode shares CharIN’s vision for a universal charging standard to accelerate the pace of decarbonization of the transportation sector.

First Mode has established immense expertise in heavy-duty electrified vehicles through its development of the world’s largest zero-emission truck, which is powered by the company’s proprietary nuGen™ hybrid battery-hydrogen engine. The nuGen™ haulage solution also provides supportive infrastructure such as battery recharging, hydrogen production, storage, and refueling to enable diesel-free mine operations.

"First Mode is excited to bring its expertise in heavy-duty electrified mining vehicles to CharIN. While the nuGen™ Haulage Solution utilizes a hybrid battery-hydrogen powerplant at present, we are looking forward to participating in the development and discussion of technologies, such as the Megawatt Charging System, for future product versions."
Krunal Desai, First Mode’s Director of Electrical Engineering

CharIN has been instrumental to the widespread adoption of CCS, which laid a foundation for the electrification of light and medium-duty vehicles, and First Mode is happy to be bringing its expertise in heavy-duty electrified mining vehicles to the association’s ongoing development of universal charging standards for heavy-duty vehicles.

With a bold mission to eliminate diesel from heavy industry, First Mode is pleased to contribute to existing and developing universal standards to ensure safety, interoperability, and efficiency of battery charging for heavy-duty industrial applications.

About First Mode

First Mode is a global carbon reduction company developing creative, clean energy solutions for heavy industry’s toughest problems. We started by removing the diesel engine from a colossal mining truck and replacing it with a hydrogen fuel cell powerplant. A world-first, and the world’s largest. But we’re not stopping there. We are also working on providing critical mine site infrastructure for hydrogen production, battery recharging, and hydrogen refueling. Today, we’re starting at the source, the mining industry, and tomorrow the larger supply chain, to completely eliminate the use of diesel and speed the clean energy transition
