CharIN Showcases Megawatt Charging Advancements and Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary at EVS38

At EVS38 in Gothenburg, Sweden, CharIN spotlighted the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) as a key enabler for electrifying heavy-duty transport. Alongside technical presentations, a live demonstration, and expert panels, the organization also marked its 10th anniversary with members and partners worldwide.

As a Platinum Sponsor of EVS38, CharIN joined the Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exhibition (EVS38) from June 16-18, 2025, with a strong presence, highlighting its leadership in advancing interoperability and high-power charging for heavy-duty electric vehicles.

At the center of this year's presence was the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) – a critical enabler for scaling electrified transport. CharIN hosted a Satellite Symposium titled "Megawatt Charging System (MCS): Standardizing the Backbone of the Future of High-Power E-Mobility." The session provided a comprehensive overview of MCS development, standardization progress, and high-power charging use cases in the mining, marine, and aviation sectors.

CharIN initiated the MCS Task Force in 2018, laying the groundwork for this milestone. Built on the Combined Charging System (CCS), the MCS initiative brings together the entire heavy-duty vehicle value chain, ensuring a truly interoperable, efficient, and scalable solution for commercial transport electrification.

The significance of MCS was further highlighted by Scania's live demonstration of the technology at the CharIN booth. Led by Daniel Schulze and Jorge Soria, the demonstration showcased the charging of a heavy-duty truck at an Ekoenergetyka Megawatt charger, cutting charging times significantly compared to current CCS2 technology. The MCS solution enables trucks to reach 80% charge in less than 30 minutes, supporting faster operations and increased uptime for long-distance logistics.

"Being part of the CharIN booth and launching our MCS solution in this collaborative environment underscores the importance of partnership and interoperability. The same day, we organized a panel discussion with relevant representatives of the charging ecosystem about the enabling conditions for charging infrastructure at the CharIN booth. CharIN's MCS work has laid the foundation for real-world applications like our long haulage truck. CharIN brings the right players together to shape the future of electric transport."

Following the launch, Scania hosted a panel discussion on "Enabling Conditions for HDV Charging" at the CharIN booth. The session brought together experts from across industry and policymaking, including representatives from the European Commission (DG MOVE), ACEA, TRATON, Circle K, Hubject, and EVRoaming Foundation, as well as CharIN. The discussion focused on how regulation, infrastructure, and cross-sector cooperation can accelerate the rollout of heavy-duty vehicle charging across Europe.

In parallel to the technical and policy conversations, CharIN celebrated a significant milestone: 10 years of driving e-mobility forward. The day concluded with a birthday celebration at the CharIN booth, which was joined by members, friends, and partners from around the world. Together, the community marked a decade of progress and collaboration with a toast and the cutting of a CharIN birthday cake.

Over the last ten years, CharIN has grown into a global industry network, connecting stakeholders across regions, sectors, and the entire charging value chain. Today, the association continues to support global interoperability with a growing presence in Europe, Asia, North America, and beyond.

"The EVS is a place where experts from around the world come together to exchange knowledge and showcase innovation. It is encouraging to see how the industry has matured and how far we have come in developing scalable and smart charging solutions. CharIN is proud to be part of this journey."
Claas Bracklo, Chairman of CharIN

The CharIN joint booth was a central hub for knowledge exchange, innovation, and networking. Alongside CharIN, 12 co-exhibitors presented their latest developments: ADVANTICS, Amphenol, eSystems, Gloquadtech, Gridwiz, HUBER+SUHNER, Ionity, JAE, Keysight, LAPP, Phoenix Contact, and SCU.

EVS38 once again demonstrated the importance of collaboration and standardization in enabling the global shift to sustainable transport. CharIN remains committed to advancing a seamless and interoperable charging ecosystem for all industries.
