The CharIN Testival EUROPE 2024 was a dynamic, hands-on, two-and-a-half-day event organized by CharIN, the non-profit association dedicated to promoting the interoperability of global charging solutions for all types of electric vehicles (EVs).
At the CharIN Testival, stakeholders from across the e-mobility value chain gathered to test the interoperability of various EVs, charging stations, and communication controllers. It was an electrifying event - it successfully enhanced EV charging standards, paving the way for improved EV charging infrastructure and an elevated customer experience.
Hosted by VEDECOM and MOBENA, leading organizations in mobility research and innovation, the event took place at the Vedecom mobiLab in the picturesque city of Versailles.
This time, representatives from leading automotive companies, equipment suppliers, and testing facilities participated, including Bosch, Daimler Truck, Ford, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz AG, Nissan Automotive Europe S.A.S., Renault Trucks, Volvo Car Corporation, and more.

During the opening ceremony, Michael Keller, CTO of CharIN, welcomed all testers and participants. Sven Gröning from Keysight Technologies provided safety and testing instructions and Steffen Rhinow from Hubject delivered detailed information on Plug & Charge End-to-End Testing.
Plug & Charge End-to-End Testing
In collaboration with Hubject, participants engaged in Plug & Charge end-to-end testing, evaluating interoperability under real-world conditions. Practical tests included:
- EVSE Leaf Certificate installation via OCPP
- V2G/MO Root Certificate installation via OCPP
- Contract Authentication and Authorization
Multi V2G PKI Testing
Additionally, Multi V2G PKI Testing was introduced, allowing participants to test multiple V2G PKIs at dedicated locations. Smooth onboarding processes were essential for maximizing testing efficiency, with the Testival sponsors Irdeto and Gireve supporting the Multi PKI Testing.
Insights and Reflections from Partner Keysight
The 2024 Testival in Versailles showcased key innovations in electric vehicle (EV) charging technology, particularly around interoperability and conformance testing. At this event, 50% of all protocol implementations already supported the latest version of CCS protocol: ISO 15118-20. This was tested in real-world scenarios in various use cases (e.g. AC/DC/BPT/PnC). In addition, Keysight Testing tools used at the Testival supported a first implementation of the ISO 15118-21/-23 conformance test cases.
The coming together of the electric mobility industry and CharIN community in France underscores the shared commitment to a sustainable, cleaner future with green mobility and energy. This event is a crucial milestone for the development of standardized charging products that are reliable, secure, and accessible.
