This partnership marks a significant step in accelerating the commercialization of advanced mobility technologies and services in Sacramento, California, and providing automotive and EVSE manufacturers new opportunities on the West Coast.
Through this collaboration, CharIN and Cal EPIC will support research, testing, and workforce development initiatives aimed at fostering a seamless and scalable EV charging ecosystem. CharIN and Cal EPIC will also be able to work together with the University of California system, California State Universities, and local community colleges to ensure they are involved in EVSE opportunities for the next generation.

Driving Innovation Through Collaboration
Cal EPIC, a public-private partnership composed of government entities, research institutions, and technology and automotive companies, is developing an innovation hub to support research and manufacturing of new clean energy and zero-emission transportation technologies. CharIN, a leader in e-mobility standardization, brings extensive experience in advancing EV charging interoperability, engaging with governmental institutions, and promoting industry best practices.
Under this MOU, the organizations will focus on key initiatives, including:
- Testing Infrastructure: Cal EPIC will provide EV charging testing capacity and prioritize time for CharIN Testivals –industry-wide interoperability testing events - at Cal EPIC’s facility.
- Standardization & Validation: Cal EPIC aims to become a CharIN-recognized Testing House, capable of issuing CharIN Test Certificates for EV and EVSE manufacturers.
- Policy & Market Alignment: Both organizations will collaborate on policy development, industry outreach, and grant funding opportunities.
- Workforce Development: CharIN and Cal EPIC will partner with California’s higher education institutions to prepare the next generation of clean energy and EVSE professionals.
