Buenos Aires electromobility program: A leap forward for CCS-2 adoption
- Regulatory framework: The resolution establishes technical and safety requirements for installing EV charging stations, streamlining the authorization process for public road placements.
- CCS-2 as a priority: Public charging stations (Modes 3 and 4) must include at least one CCS-2 connector, positioning it as the de facto standard for EV charging in Buenos Aires. While achieving exclusivity for CCS-2 remains challenging, this regulation marks a critical milestone in standardizing charging infrastructure.
- Public-private collaboration: The city plans to install 400 charging points over the next two years, partnering with private companies, including CharIN members, to drive investment, installation, and maintenance. The government will ensure that technical standards and urban planning are in place, while CharIN’s expertise supports the adoption of CCS-2 as the priority standard.
CharIN Members drive progress
The project is a joint effort involving numerous companies, emphasizing the importance of collaboration across the industry. Several of these partners are proud members of CharIN.

Expanding green mobility in Argentina
The program aligns with Buenos Aires’ broader push for green mobility:
- The city’s first all-electric bus line now connects major downtown hubs, serving thousands of passengers daily and reducing urban emissions.
- The TramBUS system, powered by 100% electric, zero-emission vehicles, provides efficient transit across key neighborhoods, benefiting 50,000 daily commuters.
- By 2027, all new buses must adopt clean energy technologies (electric or CNG), with older units phased out after 10 years.
This transition aligns with the city’s commitment to CCS-2 infrastructure, ensuring that electric buses and private EVs can rely on a standardized, interoperable charging network. The integration of CCS-2 into public transport charging stations further solidifies Buenos Aires’ leadership in sustainable mobility.
CharIN Activities in LATAM
Latin America boasts one of the most dynamic renewable energy markets in the world, with over half of its electricity sector (56% of the total) generated from renewable sources. Some countries have already transitioned to 100% renewable electricity.
CharIN is actively supporting this transition across the region with CCS-2 adoption. Learn more on CharIN´s dedicated Spanish website
