After a successful CharIN MCS Controller Testival at AUTEL Energy Europe, this latest CharIN Testival is now focused on fully integrated MCS testing, bringing four heavy-duty vehicles into the signature testing process.
This was full MCS system integration in action. For the first time, power transfer was successfully tested with real vehicles and charging systems. Participants were able to mutually authenticate charging sessions using the mandatory mutual TLS 1.3 security mechanism, marking a first step toward a more secure and seamless Plug & Charge integration in compliance with the ISO 15118-20 standard. This advancement paves the way for a future-proof, interoperable, and secure charging ecosystem.
"We are proud to welcome this international event to the Pays de Gex. It is a strong signal of our support for electric mobility and our ambition to position the region as a major player in innovation. By bringing together manufacturers, experts, and constructors to test, exchange, and move forward on interoperability, this event fully reflects our identity, where technological excellence, local roots, and conviviality come together."Mr. Patrice Dunand, President of Pays de Gex
MCS in Action
The highlight of the event was the Public Day on June 4, which offered visitors a deep dive into real-world MCS controller testing and implementation. This day attracted a broader audience from across the e-mobility value chain, including business developers, media representatives, and industry decision-makers eager to witness the latest progress in MCS.
The day began with opening words and a welcome from Mr. Patrice Dunand, President of Pays de Gex, who attended setting the tone for collaboration and innovation. Attendees then joined a guided CharIN Testival tour led by CharIN’s CTO Michael Keller, who walked participants through the full testing environment, showcasing how heavy-duty vehicles, charging systems, and communication protocols came together in real-world conditions.
One of the standout moments was the live MCS charging demonstration hosted by ADVANTICS in collaboration with Stäubli, featuring their MCS connector in action. Visitors were also able to explore how an MCS station is built from the ground up and learned more about secure charging through sessions on Multi-PKI authentication and V2G applications for commercial vehicles.
The day concluded with a strategic deep dive into the “Why, What, and How” of Plug & Charge, led by Strategic Testing Partner Hubject. This session tied everything together by highlighting the critical role of secure, standardized communication for the successful rollout of megawatt charging worldwide.
"Hosting the CharIN Testival is a proud moment for us at ADVANTICS. We are excited to test the market-ready MCS charge controller against real-life trucks. Future of megawatt charging is here."Michal Elias, founder of ADVANTICS
