CharIN ISO 15118-20 Controller Testival NORTH AMERICA 2026 – Sacramento

This three-day event brings together EVCC and SECC controller manufacturers and technology providers to validate the interoperability, cybersecurity, and performance of ISO 15118-20 implementations ahead of broader commercial deployment.

The Controller Testival will focus on interoperability between Megawatt Charging System (MCS), DC, and AC communication controllers implementing ISO 15118-20. The AC and DC testing scope will include CCS and NACS controller implementations for light-duty charging, while MCS testing will address high-power charging applications for heavy-duty vehicles. Participants will validate mutual TLS 1.3 authentication, Plug & Charge, smart charging communication, and other supported ISO 15118-20 capabilities. Industry stakeholders have begun implementing ISO 15118-20 Amendment 1, and the relevant capabilities will be included in the testing scope if sufficiently mature by the time of the event.

Scope of the Event

The event will focus on testing the communication between EVCC and SECC controllers implementing ISO 15118-20. In each test scenario, two controllers from different participating companies will be paired for interoperability testing. This evaluation will help verify that the controllers communicate correctly, follow the relevant ISO 15118-20 requirements, and can be integrated into future electric vehicle and charging infrastructure solutions.

Current Developments in ISO 15118-20 Controller

Current developments in EVCC and SECC controller technology focus on the implementation of new and advanced functions introduced by ISO 15118-20. These include secure communication, Plug & Charge, smart charging, and bidirectional power transfer. The development of interoperable controller solutions is an important step toward enabling reliable communication between electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.

MCS Workshop

CharIN and Cal EPIC will host a one-day MCS Workshop, bringing together industry, fleets, utilities, government agencies, and researchers to discuss MCS standards and interoperability, the West Coast Corridor, infrastructure funding, and utility interconnection, with interactive sessions on permitting and grid capacity solutions, live MCS charging demonstrations, and a tour of the Capital Charge Yard.

ISO 15118-20 Testival Public Day Side Program — November 18

Get a behind-the-scenes look at the future of interoperable and bidirectional EV charging during the ISO 15118-20 Testival Observer Day. This public-facing day will give attendees an opportunity to learn what is being tested and why it matters, explore advancements in Plug & Charge, PKI and cybersecurity, tour Cal EPIC’s state-of-the-art testing facilities, and observe Testival interoperability testing in action.

The program will also feature discussions on AC vehicle-to-grid (V2G), CharIN’s evolving conformance testing program, and the steps needed to move V2G from standards and pilots into successful real-world deployment. Attendees will have opportunities throughout the day to connect with Testival participants, technical experts, and other industry stakeholders, culminating in a networking reception hosted by Cal EPIC.
