This three-day event brings together EVCC and SECC controller manufacturers and technology providers to validate the interoperability, cybersecurity, and performance of ISO 15118-20 implementations ahead of broader commercial deployment.
The Testival will focus on interoperability between Megawatt Charging System (MCS), DC, and AC communication controllers implementing ISO 15118-20. The AC and DC testing scope will include CCS and NACS controller implementations for light-duty charging, while MCS testing will address high-power charging applications for heavy-duty vehicles. Participants will validate mutual TLS 1.3 authentication, Plug & Charge, smart charging communication, and other supported ISO 15118-20 capabilities. Industry stakeholders have begun implementing ISO 15118-20 Amendment 1, and the relevant capabilities will be included in the testing scope if sufficiently mature by the time of the event.

Timezone: America/Los_Angeles (PDT)
Location:
Sacramento, California
Scope of the Event
The event will focus on testing the communication between EVCC and SECC controllers implementing ISO 15118-20. In each test scenario, two controllers from different participating companies will be paired for interoperability testing. This evaluation will help verify that the controllers communicate correctly, follow the relevant ISO 15118-20 requirements, and can be integrated into future electric vehicle and charging infrastructure solutions.
Current Developments in ISO 15118-20 Controller
Current developments in EVCC and SECC controller technology focus on the implementation of new and advanced functions introduced by ISO 15118-20. These include secure communication, Plug & Charge, smart charging, and bidirectional power transfer. The development of interoperable controller solutions is an important step toward enabling reliable communication between electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.
Benefits for Testers
Testers can expect to gain valuable insights into the latest EVCC and SECC controller implementations, exchange experience with industry experts, and contribute to the development of standardized and interoperable ISO 15118-20 solutions. The event will also provide participants with an opportunity to test their controllers against solutions from other companies, identify potential interoperability issues, and receive technical feedback from peers and experts in the field.
Host: Cal EPIC
Cal EPIC (California Energy, Power, and Innovation Collaborative) is a Sacramento-based nonprofit focused on accelerating research, development, and commercial manufacturing of clean energy and transportation technology. Cal EPIC’s 33,000-square-foot Innovation Hub is home to the Capital Charge Yard EVSE interoperability and conformance testing center in addition to a prototyping and manufacturing lab and clean tech workforce development programs.
Technical organizer: KERI
Since its establishment in 1976, the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI) has been playing a central role in the advancement of scientific technology and industrial development in Korea by leading R&Ds and testing in the electric power, electricity and electric utility fields.
With our accumulated technological power and expertise, we intend on developing advanced fusion technologies, converging traditional technologies with IT, NT and ET. Through these efforts, we wish to lead the development of original technologies of the future and the creation of new, knowledge-based industries.
KERI brings this technical depth to its role as technical organizer for the upcoming event in Sacramento, where the institute will apply its testing and R&D experience to support the program's technical planning and execution. This positions KERI as a key partner in ensuring the event meets the rigorous technical standards expected across the electric power and e-mobility sectors.
In October, KERI will also host a CharIN Testival, bringing together industry stakeholders for hands-on testing and interoperability work. The event reflects KERI's ongoing commitment to advancing practical, standards-based technology development and to strengthening collaboration across the charging infrastructure ecosystem.

Welcome Session
Building the MCS Ecosystem
The transition to zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty transportation will require charging infrastructure capable of meeting the unique power, operational, and reliability needs of commercial fleets. This opening session will set the stage for the workshop by examining the role of the Megawatt Charging System (MCS) in the U.S. transportation electrification strategy and the opportunity to build a coordinated ecosystem around its deployment.

MCS Technical Update
From Standard to Deployment
MCS is rapidly progressing from technical development and standardization toward real-world implementation. This session will provide an update on the latest MCS technical developments, including standards, charging interfaces, ISO 15118-20 communications, interoperability, cybersecurity, and testing and certification activities. Speakers will discuss where technology stands today, lessons emerging from early interoperability testing and deployments, and the remaining technical work necessary to enable a reliable and interoperable MCS ecosystem. The session will also explore how common standards and rigorous testing can reduce implementation risk and accelerate commercial deployment.

Technical Project Manager, CharIN
State of the Market
MCS Moves from Pilots to Corridors
As electric trucks move into larger-scale commercial deployment, megawatt charging is beginning to transition from demonstrations and pilots toward fleet, depot, and corridor applications. This session will examine the current state of the MCS market through the perspectives of charging infrastructure developers, vehicle manufacturers, and other industry leaders. Speakers will discuss emerging projects and use cases, including development of high-power charging corridors, and share lessons related to site selection, fleet demand, utilization, infrastructure design, and business models.

VP of Government & Utility Relations, Greenlane
Networking Break
Funding the MCS Buildout
Turning Plans into Projects
Megawatt-scale charging sites can require significant investment in charging equipment, utility infrastructure, site development, and supporting technologies. This session will examine the public and private funding mechanisms available to help bridge financing gaps and move projects from planning to construction. Speakers will discuss state and federal programs supporting medium- and heavy-duty charging infrastructure, as well as opportunities to better align public investment with private capital. The conversation will consider how funding programs can address early-market risks while helping establish a sustainable long-term market for MCS infrastructure.
The Megawatt Challenge
Interconnection & Energization
For many high-power charging projects, installing chargers is only part of the challenge—the larger constraint can be securing sufficient electrical capacity and getting sites energized on timelines that align with fleet deployments. This session will bring together utilities, charging developers, fleets, and other stakeholders to examine the unique grid and interconnection challenges associated with multi-megawatt charging sites. Topics will include grid capacity, utility service upgrades, interconnection and energization timelines, infrastructure planning, load forecasting, flexible service connections, temporary or “bridge” solutions, and coordination among utilities, customers, and charging developers. Speakers will also explore approaches that could allow fleets to begin operations while longer-term grid upgrades are being completed.
